Gouritsmond Fishing

Take a drive around to the Gouritsmond car park at the river mouth for your chance to catch cob, grunter or garrick or drive further up stream and try your luck with some river fishing.

If you are fishing within the reserve, please note, you may only fish from areas where indicated by the management and with explicit permission from Kanon Private Nature Reserve. You may only fish from within the reserve if you have a valid accommodation booked and granted access. Remember to get permission to fish, always have a valid fishing license. No hopping of fences or trespassing 🙂

Fishing Do’s & Dont’s

The naturally occurring life, plants and animals, thrive here because they are protected. The area in which you find yourself is a registered private nature reserve, and this means that there are certain behavioural do’s and don’ts:

Only keep what you can eat.
Catch and release is the name of the game.
Just because it grows on the rocks does not mean you can just cut/hack/chop it off for your use as bait.
No octopus to be removed from the reserve – they are a protected species.
Buy your bait for the numerous well equipped and stocked local fishing shops.
Take your litter with you.
Remove nylon and other man-made fishing nylon/sinkers/hooks from the rocks if you see it – yours and others. It’s the natural and feel-good thing to do.
Fishing license mandatory.
No fishing in the rock pools.
Take note of signage and private property. When in doubt, ask.
