We have a “No Pets” policy at Kanon Private Nature Reserve, owing to the wealth of antelope/buck species, birds, tortoises and the possibility of snakes.

Yes well sell bags of ice, please enquire ahead of time, subject to availability during peak season.

Yes we do sell firewood. We stock Rooikrans (also known as Rooipitjie) and Namibian Firewood subject to availability.

There is no shop at Kanon, we do however sell bags of ice and firewood.

The closest shops are at Gouritz or Vleesbaai who have limited groceries. It is best to prepare and shop for your days from larger towns such as Mossel Bay which is roughly 30 minutes drive from Kanon.

A maximum od 2 vehicles per property are permitted at any one time unless previously discussed with Management

KPNR has a strict no pets policy being a Registered Nature Reserve we are continually concerned for the welfare of ALL the resident fauna & flora

This is subject to the existing number of guests occupying beds and may involve an additional rate per person per night in the case of Periwinkel&Khoekhoen – under no circumstances can the number of guests exceed the number of beds per unit

  • If cancelling 7 days before arrival, forfeit 100% of the booking total
  • If cancelling 21 days before arrival, forfeit 50% of the deposit
  • If cancelling 30 days before arrival, forfeit 25% of the deposit

All units are let “Self-Catering” however Management can arrange for catered meals at Periwinkel and/or Khoekhoen with prior arrangement with Management

Fires & Braaing/Potjie Facilities2025-02-04T18:22:43+02:00

There are open braai facilities/bomas and Weber style Kettles at each venue that are suitable for general fires, potjie cooking &braaing. However as KPNR is in a HIGH FIRE RISK ZONE it is essential that due care be taken at all times and all fires “damped down” after use. Potjie pots, braai grids and tongs etc are included at each venue.

Loadshedding policy2025-02-04T18:24:34+02:00

The Management of KPNR bears no responsibility for loadshedding but may assist with generator power where deemed appropriate for a limited period of time. This is offered primarily to assist with lights, fridge/freezers and to enable showering and the flushing of toilets etc. No Power means No Shower as all water is pumped into the units from outside tanks to bathrooms etc. The use of electrical appliances should be limited so as not to overload the generator.

Is drinking water available?2025-02-04T18:27:00+02:00

Yes, drinking water is supplied at each venue and replenished upon request. The tap water is perfect for cooking, showering etc but has a slightly brackish taste if used for drinking.

Do we need to bring any linen or towels with us?2025-02-04T18:29:35+02:00

All linen is supplied along with bath towels. Beach towels not supplied with the exception of KBL. Electric blankets are supplied in winter along with additional blankets.

Is there a housekeeping service?2025-02-04T18:31:32+02:00

Yes, which is available on an “ad hoc” system with the exception of KBL for +/- 90 minutes per day. Rate upon request.

KPNR has a laundry Service which is based upon weight per kilogram. Rates upon request for a “Wash & Fold “ or a “Wash, Fold & Iron” service.

Are there Supermarkets & Restaurants/Takeaways close by?2025-02-04T18:36:16+02:00

It is advisable for Guests to bring all their grocery/beverage requirements with them as major shopping outlets are 40/50 minutes drive (MosselBay) or alternatively smaller grocery outlets at Vleesbaai/Gouritzmond 15/20 minutes away. The same is applicable to restaurants & takeaway outlets

Yes all units are connected to WIFI, have TV’s with DSTV decoders (including sport, news, drama, cartoon & documentary/travel channels etc + Kyknetchannels).

The kitchens and units are exceptionally well equipped and all have “coffee plungers” as a minimum – further details on request

Yes, fishing is allowed providing you have a current license

Refuse is collected regularly and there are recycling bins outside the units to cater for vegetable/fruit waste, glass, plastic & paper. There is also a general refuse bin.

Yes, each unit has a variety of such items with more available on application to Housekeeping/Management

Yes indeed, providing care is taken on the reserve not to ride over tortoises etc

Yes, each unit has a dishwasher provided with salt & tablets

Yes, with liners which is also for the use of female sanitary products

There is a Laminated Emergency Instruction List attached to the side of the kitchen fridge detailing procedures in the event of an emergency – it also includes a list of Emergency Numbers to call for Police / Fire/ Ambulance etc + KPNR Management.
