Not unless you previously agreed to it. Working on any public holiday in South Africa is completely voluntary and must be based on a mutual agreement, usually outlined in your employment contract. If you do agree to work on June 16th, the law states you must be paid double your standard daily rate. If the business closes and you stay home, you still get your usual full pay for that day.
