Welcome to the Kanon Private Nature Reserve Birding Checklist

With an exceptional variety of habitats, including fynbos, wetlands, riverine areas, farmlands, grasslands, flowering aloes, the Gouritz River estuary and the rugged Western Cape coastline, Kanon Private Nature Reserve and neighbouring Johnson’s Post surrounding terrain next to Voevlei are home to an incredible diversity of birdlife.

Accommodation At Kanon – Location & How To book

Distance has a funny way of feeling different once you’re on a private beach with nobody else on it.

From Kanon Private Nature Reserve, George Airport is a quick, sub-hour hop away, while Mossel Bay sits just 42km up the coast, close enough for a day trip, far enough that you’ll forget it exists once you’re here.

Knysna and Plettenberg Bay are both around 120km (roughly 90 minutes) to the east along the N2, easy additions if you’re building out a longer Garden Route itinerary.

And if you’re flying into Cape Town International Airport, budget four to five hours on the road, a small trade for 3.2km of coastline you won’t be sharing with anyone. Start planning with our Garden Route Accommodation options, narrow things down with Mossel Bay Accommodation, or go properly off the beaten path with Vleesbaai Accommodation and Gouritsmond Accommodation, all within easy reach, none of them crowded.
