The Department of Basic Education structures school terms to maximize natural holiday breaks. When Easter falls early in the month, the first term school holidays are generally scheduled to wrap around the long weekend, keeping families free to travel together.
If Easter falls very late in April, school terms may remain open through early April but build out an extended closure toward the end of the month, overlapping directly with Freedom Day.
