Cheers to family and friends that are family.
If the past two years have taught us anything at all, it’s that we can never ever take for granted spending and celebrating time with those nearest and dearest to us. When my husband and I emigrated to the Western Cape three years ago, I wouldn’t have imagined in my worst nightmare, that our democratic right to travel whenever and wherever would be removed – literally over-night! The realization that we could not travel to be with our young adult children in another province was one of the most terrifying moments of my life. And this was happening not only in our beautiful country, but world-wide. Families indefinitely split up, our elderly parents isolated from us for their safety, postponed weddings, missed birthdays, and tragically for some, not being able to say farewell to loved ones who passed away.
Two long and lonely years’ later, hello 2022.
As my family and friends know, I just love planning a get together! The longer the table the better! We have recently celebrated my nieces’ daughter’s birthday here at Khoekhoen Beach Lodge, which is located 25 kilometers outside of Mossel Bay, situated right on the coast. There is no equivalent to this idyllic setting for a small intimate family celebration. And we had the perfect recipe, a 21st, family, friends who are family, fabulous food, and the sheer joy of being together again. As the music flowed out over the deck to merge with the sounds of laughter and the thunder of the waves, the fires were lit to welcome the setting of the sun over a warm Indian Ocean. What a 21st, what a day at Cape Vacca. (Link)
